Smooth Earth Snake (Virginia valeriae)

Description: 7 - 10 inches. Smooth Earth Snakes are tan or brown and generally don't have any markings, but may have a very faint stripe down the back. The belly is a plain white or yellow colored.

Similar Species: Tan colored Smooth Green Snakes may be confused with Smooth Earth Snakes, but can be distinguished by the scales between the eyes and the nostrils. Smooth Green Snakes have one scale separating the scale around the nostril, and the scale in front of the eye. Smooth Earth Snakes have a scale behind the nostril that touches the scale in the front of the eye.
