Western Worm Snake (Carphophis vermis) - Threatened

Description: 7½ - 11 inches. Western Worm Snakes are dark purple on top, and bright pink on the belly and sides. The scales are smooth and shiny, giving the snake an iridescent look in the right light.

Similar Species: The red coloring on the belly of Storeria occippitomaculatas does not extend up the sides. Prairie Ringneck Snakes have a light colored ring around the neck.
